No Officers Elected? Officers Resigned?
PTAs often find the executive board with some vacant positions. Whether there was no election, vacancies following election or officer resignations, there is a solution for each situation.
No Election
An election led by Ninth District PTA leaders is required. Contact the PTA district at office@ninthdistrictpta.org or 858-268-8077.
Vacancies Following Election
Bylaws for Local PTA/PTSA Units, Article V, Section 7 and Section 11 read in part:
SECTION 7.
Vacant positions must be filled by the executive board-elect or executive board, per Article V, Section 11. No officer shall be eligible to the same office for more than two consecutive terms or hold more than one elected or appointed office.
SECTION 11.
A vacancy occurring in any office shall be filled for the unexpired term by a person elected by the executive board. Election to fill a vacancy shall require a majority vote of the executive board, with at least ten (10) days' previous notice. If notice is not given, the election to fill the vacancy shall require a two-thirds (2/3) vote.
[emphasis added]
Resignations
When an officer or chairman presents a written resignation, the executive board meets - at a regularly scheduled meeting or a special meeting called with required notice - to accept the resignation and elect a member to complete the term.
